Highway Congestion and Chaos

As more and more people travel to the Big Sur area the feeling of getting away from it all is replaced with highway congestion, as hoards of people search out the limited sensitive trails, and beaches. These areas which at one time gave you the feeling of freedom and being in nature are now in a state of chaos from overcrowding. More and more people are using social media to exploit this fragile area of beauty. They are stopping for a two second selfie to post on social media and then move onto the next spot.

This increase of people and vehicles is causing the land to be overused and the experience for all is greatly compromised and very dangerous at times. There are issues of traffic congestion, illegal roadside camping, litter, overused land, and a tremendous increase in fire danger. Popular areas and turnouts have become overcrowded and many times a dangerous situation.

What are the solutions?  How can we make Big Sur a great experience for the tourists and the people who live here?   Some ideas that have been talked about are; a toll road, or a reservation system for areas that are heavily impacted.  A solution is necessary or Big Sur will be ruined for all in a very short time.
